Hannah and Chanel's Powhiri Recount

Chanel's Side of the story .....

Today was a lovely day, until all the hairs on the back of my neck rose. We were getting ready to start performing our performances before the Mayor gets here with all his guests. He was visiting us because there will be a new Early Childhood Education centre getting built in the front of our school, Glenbrae School. My friend, Hannah was performing a Samoan dance, the boys from my class were performing a Tongan dance. When the Mayor arrives with all the other guests, us girls and boys will welcome him with the haka and Karena and Noellen will welcome them with the karaga. It was so traditional and New Zealand like. After all the nerve-wracking moments, we walked and silently sat inside the hall waiting for the ceremony to start. During the ceremony, we were singing, laughing, clapping. Len Brown, Nick Smith and Matua Jim made some speeches and talked to us about what has been happening around Glen Innes. There has been people moving from houses to houses and some people aren’t liking it, but it’s okay.

Hannah's side of the story .....

After all the laughs and joking around, the whole school walked to the front of the school, getting ready to dig into the ground for the building of the centre, next year. We all sang Te Aroha once more and then took photos. Some people were fangirling, I could tell. We photobomb some of the photos, which were funny. Later on, we went to the scout hall, which was getting repaired and is going to more beautiful than before. We did the karakia to bless it and wish that everything will go well. We also went down to Taniwha Street to see the new buildings that are getting built. It was funny because Nick Smith was inside the digger and he dug a huge hole into the ground. We stood there with protesters making everyone mad, especially me. I just wanted to …………. nothing. When it was time to leave, our teacher signalled us to start walking back to school.

Everyone had fun on that day, we all wished it never ended. But, it was a Thursday and Thursdays always end …...

Hangarau Technologies

On Fridays, our class go to Tamaki College to learn Digital Technologies. Hangarau is the Maori word for technology. When we are in class, we have to use the kiore and the papa patuhi to log into the rorohiko. On the rorohiko, we have to use the ipurangi to log into the pae tukutuku for digital technologies. Every week we access the maramataka to know what tasks we have to do. Sometimes our teacher will send us messages on our imera. Sometimes our teacher will give us dojo points from her waea pukoro, or she might also use her waea pukoro to take photos of us working. At school and home some of us use our rorohiko ponaho to do our work.

Rorohiko ponaho - Laptop/netbook

Resizing Imges

Today I learnt about resizing images. Resizing images is important because it's good for people to see the right size of the image. Like, do you want the image that your trying to post, all over the place ? No, I don't think so.

✪ Another Long Bay Trip ✪

It was a windy morning. The wind was so freezing I could’ve died, but, I didn’t. So, lucky me.
It was that day of another of our Long Bay trips. This time we were learning about the Marine Reserve. We met our old instructors, Sarah, James and Maureen. There were the years 6s, 7s and 8s. There were three groups and I was with Sarah. My group went to where the rocky shores were. And there, we had a tray with water in it, so that when we walk around looking for some sea creatures, we can place them carefully in the tray of water. The funny thing was, there was a lot of screaming coming from my mouth because I always find the things that I touch, disgusting. We found things like kina, starfish, crabs, pretty shells. EVEN MASSIVE JELLYFISH ! We were given a little booklet and on it, there were sea creatures that we had to look for on the rocky shore. I think we found a lot more than we were supposed too. AMAZING ! Anyway, other people were really fascinated with what they found themselves. I didn’t really know the other kind of fishes, but, at least I found something great to share. Later on that morning, we had our lunch back at our ‘hut’. We were sitting next to our friends, feeding the birds and laughing our heads off because of our jokes.

Our break wasn’t that long, although we did have two more sessions to go with Sarah and then off we went back to school. Our second session was a plain walk along the beach looking for more different types of species. We got some information of Sarah about some of the insects that were crawling, jumping around in the sand. We found some grubs ..... it was not a nice view to see. We played with the sand, ran around, drew our initials in it. I thought it was better than the other Long Bay trip we had. That one was BOOOOOORRRRIIIIING ! Next, we went back to our hut, and we put all the things that we got together and were asked a lot of questions about it. It was competition and we only had seven points, but, I didn't care. We talked about our things, like the different things we found and asked questions about it. It was ..... all right. It wasn't fun at all.

After returning all the things we found, we had to pack and head to the bus. We went year by year to the bus. Sitting down with patience, we headed back to school. Everyone in the bus were really loud. Almost louder than wild animals. There were people singing, laughing, talking and even playing. I was just chillin' with my average friends. The day was cheerful and hilarious. I really enjoyed learning about the waves and the sea creatures and ..... yeah. I really hope we get to go there again.

✌Piano Recital ✌

On Saturday, during the weekend, I had a piano recital at my teacher's friend's house. I was asked to practice three pieces to play at the recital. Two of them, I played on my own and the other one was a duet that I played with another boy called, Ryan. First of all, we had to wait until EVERYONE was there. The person to come lastly was, Ryan. When he came I was so relieved that he did come because, was I going to play a duet by myself ? The line went from youngest to oldest. My teacher called out the names of who were going to play, one after the other. I was the last one to play my pieces, and nailed it. I played exactly how my teacher told me to play. With confidence and inspiration. I was nervous at start, but, when I started playing my pieces, I felt so lonely and managed to get through all the pieces. I was so happy that I did my best and also impressed my mother, that was there.

ღ War ღ

war is the pronunciation of death
it starts with happiness
but, ends with only one breath
so, why wouldn't we just be friends ?
way before those comments
way before we started those pretends

the soldiers who lost their families
or even became insanity
the lives of many shredded
i don't think they knew where they were headed
but, now that they've fought their lives for us
all that we know
is that there would be no more fuss
